During the 2011 calendar year, through Planning Council programs...

  • 21,755 callers dialing 2-1-1 obtained health and human services information and referrals
  • 13,708 visitors, including 10,746 first-time visitors,searched www.theplanningcouncil.org
  • 134 households (400 individuals) maintained permanent housing with homeless prevention assistance
  • 132 families in Norfolk were housed with the help of the Housing Broker Team
  • 191 employees of Sentara were assisted by the HOPE Fund
  • 406 caregivers were trained in suicide first aid,potentially providing 6,333 interventions. 157 persons were trained in “Train the Trainer” workshops
  • 359 suicide alert helpers were trained (SAFETALKS)
  • 15,546 children in 2,056 child care settings in Virginia and Maryland received nutritious meals via the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program (monthly) - not included: 352 child care providers added on October 1st from Baltimore City
  • 305 families, 478 children in Chesapeake; 613 families, 1,056 children in Norfolk; and 462 families, 758 children in Portsmouth obtained quality child care through Childcare Assistance Programs (monthly)
  • 3,175 child care slots were available in 635 family homes that met the standards of the Virginia Voluntary Registration Program (monthly)
  • 1,163 providers in South Hampton Roads, Western Tidewater and the Eastern Shore were eligible for referral to families through the Virginia Child Care Resource and Referral Network (monthly)
  • 73 Navy families and 2 Air Force families received an average of 3,800 hours of Respite Care Services for exceptional family members (monthly)
