Gardening – Child Care Based
The Planning Council assits child care centers and home day centers incorporate gardening into their programs through one-on-one assistance and community partnerships. Child care program gardens vary based on individual needs.
The Planning Council offers trainings such as, Introducing Children to Growing: Container Gardening 101, for providers in partnership with specialists from Norfolk Botanical Gardens. The specialist also provide follow-up, on-site technical assistance.
The Planning Council’s Registered Dietician also teaches, Grow It, Try It, Like It, in which programs leave with a Nutrition Education Kit. This is a curriculum from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
In partnership with Healthy Suffolk, The Planning Council installed a 4×8-foot raised garden at The Children’s Center in Suffolk. Click here to read more.
