POSITION: Child Care Eligibility Worker

SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position has responsibilities that consist of managing a caseload of applicants applying for eligibility for Chesapeake Department of Social Services’ Day Care Programs. Assesses child care needs of applicants, determines eligibility, and assists in the selection of quality childcare. Responsible for interpreting and explaining rules and regulations governing eligibility, methods of payment, and legal rights of applicants.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in the area of social work, psychology, or sociology or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possess ability to relate well to individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and with varying levels of ability. Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) and database management systems in a Windows environment.

POSITION: ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SPECIALIST
RESPITE CARE PROGRAM
PART-TIME (20 hours/week)
SALARY: $14,000/Annually
JOB OVERVIEW: This position provides administrative support to the Respite Care Program which facilitates placement of home care providers for respite care for military families participating in the Exceptional Family Member Program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to active involvement in the recruitment, training, and monitoring of care providers; assisting with communication between the Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) agency, the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) and military installation EFMP Coordinators; and assisting with training and providing technical assistance to participating child care programs and individuals.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in Child Development, Special Education, or Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field, and at least two years of experience in Special Education or ECE, and experience training adults. Experience working with families of children with special needs preferred. Knowledge of state child care licensing, child care observation and assessment practices and tools is preferred. Must have exemplary customer service skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and strong computer skills including word processing, data entry, database management and reporting, internet use, and email. Excellent time management skills are essential.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary based on 20 hours per week; some local travel is required. Documentation of valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

Interviews clients and assesses child care needs of applicants, determines eligibility, and assists in the selection of quality childcare. Responsible for interpreting and explaining rules and regulations governing eligibility, methods of payment, and legal rights of applicants. Develops individual client service plans and monitors case for continued eligibility and provider compliance. Maintains comprehensive case files and enters and maintains case information in multiple data management systems.

POSITION: Child Care Field Monitor – Half-Time
CLOSING DATE: Screening will begin as applications are received and will continue until the position is filled.
STARTING SALARY: $10,500/annually
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Work with The Planning Council’s United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program. The program administers subsidy payments to qualified home child care providers to ensure that children receive nutritious meals while in the day care setting. Field Monitors are responsible for managing a caseload of home child care providers. Responsibilities include making scheduled home visits to child care providers in the area (primarily Hampton Roads) to recruit them into the program, enrolling new providers, and ensuring compliance with program requirements. Individuals will also engage in program outreach activities, including recruiting day care providers for Voluntary Registration status.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Position requires an associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Social Work, Sociology, or Psychology, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. BA/BS degree preferred. Knowledge of child nutrition, excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to plan and manage with little supervision required. Must provide own transportation (mileage reimbursed), valid driver’s license, acceptable DMV record, and proof of vehicle insurance. Demonstrated ability to meet compliance, regulatory, and procedural demands.
