About the program:
Provides day program for hearing impaired children from infancy through 14 years. Kendall Demonstration Elementary School (KDES) at Gallaudet University is a federally
mandated, tuition-free day school for children from birth to age 15 who have an educationally significant hearing loss.
ELIGIBILITY: Children having secondary handicaps are considered, providing handicap does not preclude child being taught as a hearing-impaired child. Medical care, therapeutic
and rehabilitative services are restricted to students enrolled in Kendall Program.
REFERRAL POLICY: Kendall required an autiological evaluation, a speech/language evaluation, a psychoeducational evaluation, and a medical and social hisory.
SERVICES PROVIDED: Kendall Demonstration Elementary School is a day program for hearing impaired children from infancy through 14 years of age. Diagnostic evaluation services
are provided for prospective candidates for admission to the program. Since school is not a residential/inpatient facility, medical care, therapeutic and rehabilitative
services, per force, are not tendered on an out patient basis. Eligibility for such services is restricted to students enrolled in the Kendall Demonstration School Program.
Concommitant services offered include developmental and crisis counseling, speech, language therapy, student and family sign language training, audiology, occupational and
physical therapy.
