About the program:
Provides technical and cost-share assistance for natural resource conservation on Virginia's Eastern Shore. ELIGIBILITY: To receive services, client must own, control, rent, operate or be interested in purchasing land. Consultant services are also available to agencies with a soil or water problem and to agencies concerned with soil and water. SERVICES PROVIDED: Agency works through the Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation District. The District is a political subdivision of the State of Virginia. Its primary objective is to promote wise land use and soil and water conservation on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The Eastern Shore Soil and Water Conservation District is composed of landusers interested in soil and water conservation. Membership is available to any landuser on the Eastern Shore. The District is governed by a board of six directors. Four are elected by voters on the Eastern Shore. Two are appointed by the district with the concurrance of the Virginia Soil and Water Conservation Commission. Agency's services include adice and technical engineering assistance to private and public landusers who have soil and water conservation problems. Assistance is made available on a request basis. On the Eastern Shore, the work of the District includes - assistiang landusers with the implementation of best management practices to reduce erosion and improve water quality as related to the Chesapeake Bay Program; Assistiang with farm drainage problems; assistiang landusers developing irrigation water supplies; providing soils information; assisting landusers correct wind and water related erosion problems. The Natural Resources Conservation Service is one of the several agencies that provide technical service to the district. Agency maintains an office, and provides staff and equipment to help the district carry out its program.
