About the program:
Provides both diagnostic and therapeutic services for children and adults with speech or hearing disorders. The Speech Pathology Program provides diagnostic, therapeutic and
follow-up services in the areas of language, speech and voice. These include problems of articulation, cleft palate, stuttering, delayed language and speech, voice foreign
dialect, aphasia, post-laryngectomy speech and tongue thrust. The Speech Pathologist Services have several aspects depending upon the nature of the disorder and the person
involved. Therapy may be either direct or through play, group or individual, or a combination. For effective treatment, parents and families are involved in therapy. The
Audiology Program provides diagnostic and therapeutic services in areas of hearing disorders, such as evaluation of type and degree of hearing loss, and hearing aid evaluations
to determine the most suitable hearing aid for the hearing impaired person. Auditory training and speech reading courses are provided for those who wear hearing aids.
Diagnostic hearing test are used to determine the site of lesion in order to establish the cause of the loss of hearing. Pediatric audiometry is used to determine the
approximate degree of hearing loss that may exist in small children and infants. Electrony Stagmography-E.N.G.-Testing is performed only on a physicians's order on patients
who have vestibular disorders, dizziness or similar symptoms. The E.N.G. Test usually takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
