About the program:
Provides temporary or emergency shelter for the homeless, emergency assistance, adult services and children services for current or former tenants of the Suffolk Shelter for
the Homeless and members of the community in need as identified by other social service agencies and local churches.
Emergency assistance includes emergency utility assistance, partial or full month emergency rental or mortgage assistance for past due accounts, personal toiletry items,
laundry and cleaning supplies, clothing and shoes, and other items as available. Community Support Programs collect and distribute children's school supplies (current &
former homeless children and others as identified), suitcases and tote bags (to individuals as they leave the Shelter) and winter gear.
Adult Services include assistance with employment information and transportation assistance in the form of bus tickets to homeless adults working or actively seeking employment
or housing.
Children's Services include daily after-school activities, a curriculum-based program for youth ages four to 15 years of age on alternative ways to avoid alchohol, tobacco and
other drugs, tutoring and mentoring services by volunteers and off-site childcare assistance in licensed or regulated centers and family homes.
ELIGIBILITY CONTINUED: Children must be under 17 years of age (accompanied by adult/parent).
