About the program:
Provides coordination for emergency services in the event of a natural disaster or civil defense for the City of Norfolk.
SERVICES PROVIDED: The fallout shelter program provides 200 shelter facilities in Norfolk for use in the event of a nuclear attack. Sixteen evacuation facilities are available
in the event of hurricanes or other natural disasters. City Manager is Director of Office of Emergency Services, Division of Civil Defense and plans and coordinates emergency
services when they are needed. Agency gives training in radiological monitoring to the fire and police department staff. The Agency holds classes in medical self-help and
presents programs and demonstrations of an educational nature to schools and other agencies on a regular basis.
