About the program:
Maintains a year round recreation program for all ages, including community center activities, public playgrounds, and parks. The main objective of the department is to provide leisure time activities to all ages and pre-introductory courses at a nominal fee. Some of the services provided by the department include: 2 playgrounds which are opened during the summer for 6 week periods, playground activities for all children from 6 to 12 include--softball, volleyball, horseshoes, croquet, kickball, dodgeball, and table tennis, and picnicking. Special interest programs include--art, ballet, baton, bridge, cake decorating, gourmet cooking, ceramics, flower arranging, knitting, macrame, guitar, modern dance, modern jazz, competitive swimming, men's physical fitness, gymnastics and yoga. Instruction in tennis, golf and red cross swimming lessons are taught extensively during the summer. The department also offers adult basketball, youth basketball & softball, adult volleyball and softball. Activities at the municipal parks of Highland, Kiwanis, Quarterpath and Waller Mill comes under the department's jurisdiction.
