About the program:
Provides seeing eye dogs to qualified blind people. ELIGIBILITY: Although the age restrictions are generally between 16 and over, qualified older persons are accepted for instruction. Since students served must be capable of walking with a dog, persons confined to wheelchairs are not served. FEES: For the first dog the rate is $150, and replacement dogs are $50. This is a nominal fee for psychological purposes. Services provided incluse dog, room and board for one month. All training and roundtrip air travel costs from any point in U.S. and Canada. Installment payments may be made as convenient. REFERRAL POLICY: There may be a waiting period to allow time for the intake procedure. A medical report form is sent to applicant's physician for completion. SERVICES PROVIDED: Blind persons are trained to use seeing eye dogs.
