About the program:
Provides a federally funded non-profit law office which offers free legal services, except for court costs, to low-income residents of the city of Chesapeake who qualify
financially. Offers help with the following problems--(1) Family matters - divorce, adoption, child custody, guardianship, support, power of attorney, paternity, and name
changes. (2) Consumer matters - contract disputes, garnishments, bankruptcy, consumer credit violations, defective merchandise, warranty problems, and attachment. (3)
Employment matters - wage claims, employment agency problems, unemployment compensation, and workmen's compensation. (4) Housing matters - landlord-tenant disputes, rent
problems, public housing disputes, housing code violations, broken leases, evictions, housing, discrimination, real estate problems. (5) Assistance with government problems -
social security, state and local welfare, food stamps, Medicaid, SSI, WIC, Unemployment compensation, veteran's benefits, and workmen's compensation. (6) Other matters -
problems of the mentally ill and developmentally disabled, student disciplinary proceedings, other school problems, wills, and living wills.
