About the program:
Provides financial services to active duty, retired Air Force personnel, and family members in time of financial need; financial assistance is provided for rent/mortgage, food, utilities, car repairs, funeral expenses, emergency travel, etc. AFAS supports the General Henry Arnold Education Grant Program, the Vocational/Technical Loan Program, child care for Langley base family member volunteers, respite care for special needs families, and the Give Parents a Break Program. DIRECTORY INFORMATION: Agency serves Langley Air Force Base, surrounding area, and transit Air Force Personnel. ELIGIBILITY: Marital status/military affiliation-divorced dependents are no longer eligible to receive services. Dependents or survivors of active duty and/or retired personnel are served. Dependents of active duty and retired personnel normally require approval of military member (spouse). REFERRAL: The only required document is a military or dependents ID card. SERVICES PROVIDED: The Air Force Aid Society provides financial assistance to Air Force Personnel and their dependents in two forms- non-interest loans and grants to cover the essentials of daily living, I.E. food, shelter, essential transportation, and financial counseling.
