FEES: No fees to the student; school system pays per diem for each student. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The TRAEP Program provides services to a maximum of 90 youths. A total of 60 students from the Norfolk and Virginia Beach school systems are served at the Tucker Alternative School in Norfolk, Virginia. An additional 30 students from the Chesapeake, Franklin, Isle of Wight and Suffolk school system are served at the Suffolk Re-Ed School in Suffolk, Virginia. The primary mission of the TRAEP Program is to provide quality educational services to an at-risk population of youth. Additional services are provided to assist the student in transitioning back to a regular school environment. Students receive daily training from a pro-social skills curriculum. Through the utilization of a group format, students model, role play and practice a wide range of the pro-social skills necessary for their reintegration into their home/school setting. This social skills component is also linked to the Alternative Program's emphasis on involving parents in the educational process. A range of parental meetings, inservice groups, volunteer programs and individualized parent-school contracts are incorporated into the school setting. The Alternative Education Program also works closely with human service agencies, such as the Community Services Board, Social Services, Health Department, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and local police education services. Local experts from these agencies provide workshops on a variety of topics, such as drug abuse, career counseling and violence prevention.
