About the program:
Provides the youth development program of Virginia's Land-Grant universities (Virginia Tech and Virginia State University). The mission of 4-H is to provide educational
opportunities to youth, ages 5 -19, in an informal setting. Components of 4-H include animal, plant and soil science; economics, jobs and careers; health and safety; wildlife
environment and water quality; leadership and citizenship; science technology; individual and family resources; leisure and cultural education.
SERVICES PROVIDED: 4-H members participate in projects that use information and ideas from Virginia Tech and Virginia State University. Adult volunteers, trained by university
staff, teach projects that cover a wide range of activities. Each project offers a chance for 4-H members and their families to learn by doing. 4-H teaches youth leadership,
citizenship, and skills they use throughout their lives.
