Farm2Childcare Article in the Suffolk News Herald
On August 12, 2016, an article appeared in the Suffolk News Herald highlighting The Planning Council’s Farm2Childcare program, a program that benefits the entire community of Western Tidewater. The Obici Health Care Foundation has funded the program since its inception in 2015. Diane Nelms, communications and program specialist for the Obici Healthcare Foundation says, “This program helps kids live a healthy lifestyle.”
The Planning Council discovered a major health issue when measuring body mass indexes of more than 700 children (ages 2 – 5) in the Western Tidewater Area showed that 32 percent of the children were either overweight or obese. The Council wanted to find a way to address this issue and help the community. With the help and partnership of the Obici Health Care Foundation, Farm2Childcare was started as a pilot project.
