Each city/county has a different way of doing intake with people in a housing crisis.  In Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk or Western Tidewater you would dial 757-587-4202. In Virginia Beach, you dial 757-227-5932 and in Portsmouth you dial 757-966-2107. Be prepared to answer questions about your current crisis, any income you receive, etc.  You may reach a recording but be sure to leave a message and someone will return your call within 24 hours.

Another place to call is 2-1-1, a free Information and Referral service that will identify available resources in the community where you are, and provide phone numbers and information how to locate them.

Sentara employees should log into Sentara’s Wave Net system and read about the HOPE Fund and the assistance it can provide.

The Planning Council offers a variety of community planning services, such as: coordinating the homeless continuum of care; manage the Homeless Management Information System; managing the USDA Child and Adult Food Program for day care; training and technical assistance for day care providers; community needs and health assessments; centralized intake for home visiting services; and a variety of housing assistance for those who qualify.
